Well Happy New Year one and all. After a long time away, contemplating life and everything, I’ve decided to give it another go. Everybody keeps telling me how good an idea CashCowUK.com is, and how successful it ‘should‘ be. Makes me wonder just why those same people don’t sign up and use it… I’ve even started Tweeting again… I still a man of enforced leisure (unemployed), and still not the multi-millionaire I should be by now… Ho hum… If you have any ideas on how to spread the word and get people to start using my site, please get in touch. CashCowUK.com launches a blog

Follow the trials and tribulations of an unemployed bloke attempting to make ends meet and attempting to startup a new business with absolutely no cash. I’m sure there is television program in there just waiting to be made. So, this is it… I’ll be updating this blog with all of my triumphs and disasters so you will be the first to know if my little CashCowUK.com auctions and classifieds website succeeds or ultimately fails.

Over the next couple of days, I will endeavour to document how the site came to be, how I decided to when to launch and what has happened since. Some of it may make interesting reading, and some of it will be less interesting, infact, very dull. So here goes. A journey into the great unknown. Follow on if you dare….

New look ‘My Accounts’ page

A huge amount of work has gone into making the whole CashCowUK.com experience a pleasant one. I’ve completely redone the My Account page, so when you now log in to your account, it will look completely different. The two main and most obvious changes are the new look and new navigation menus. You are now presented with a condensed but comprehensive view of your account activity. You will see, at a glance -

CashCowUK.com Site Improvements – PayPal

This is one I’ve been promising for some time now. Like eBay, you may have heard of it, you know, that other auction website, CashCowUK.com now lets you accept PayPal payments directly from the winning bidder.

How do you set this up? Easy… Sign in to CashCowUK.com, and click on the ‘My Account Information’ icon, scroll to the bottom, and in the Seller/Buyer Online Payments section at the bottom, click the Edit button and fill in the field with the email address associated to your chosen PayPal account, then click Save. That it…

Now when some lucky person wins your item, you get paid right away. Can’t be bad…

As I have mentioned in quite a few places throughout the site, I prefer NoChex as a payment gateway, namely because they are cheaper than PayPal, are based in the UK, and are not owned by eBay. For this reason, I will soon be adding this functionality for NoChex account holders too. I know PayPal is the most well known gateway at the moment, which is why I have done theirs first.

Your item images are now displayed in a more modern style ‘lightbox‘ instead of a plain old pop up. You can still slide show forward and backwards through the images, but it now looks a lot more professional. When the ‘lightbox‘ starts, it fills the whole screen, ensuring your images get 100% of the views attention. Hope you like it.

CashCowUK.com Site Improvements

Been very quiet on the blog front for some time now, but I’ve been working on additional functionality and improvements, which will hopefully enhance your whole buying and selling experience.

The first thing I’ve updated will help Google, and therefore the rest of the world to find your items for sale, is, new improved listing URLs. Now, instead of an item being listed as -

which, less face it, means absolutely nothing to you or me. It now contains a lot more information regarding the item itself, listing category, and is a true link directly to the items page on the site.

It now looks like this -

a lot more long winded, but as far as internet searching, and page linking goes, its a lot better. I hope you agree.

Another Day, Another Awards Competition

I Just Don’t Get It….

I’ve been on the courses. I’ve done what they have suggested. I’ve got a blog and Twitter account, but still struggling to get any great number of people to register and use my site CashCowUK.com. All of this Social Networking stuff is supposed to increase your companies profile, attract more people and customers to your site and make everything lovely and successful. NOT TRUE… What am I doing wrong???? I’ve got a good little site, which should be very successful given the current state of the economy, but I still struggling to market it, even with all these new fangled techniques. Seems ebay can charge as much as they want, and people still flock to it, and I’ve got a auction/classified site which is FREE, (or as near as makes no difference) and am finding it very difficult to get people to enroll and use it. What makes it worse is when you see stuff like this posted on YouTube -

As I said, I JUST DON’T GET IT…

Just about done all I can with regards to the site. Need some serious help with develpment and promotion to move it forward. Any ideas on how to get people to sign up to the site and start advertising stuff? More importantly, I need cash, and lots of it. I am absolutely stoney broke, and I mean scary broke.

Just finished the competition entry form for the Chamber of Commerce Awards 2009 for the ‘Most Promising New Business’. Only 9 sections to complete, but how takes a bit of thinking as you only get one crack of the whip. Having only been going for 7 weeks, and not having a business plan or much of a clue about business, probably not much hope of winning, but gave it a go anyway. Oh well, nothing ventured etc….
